Charles Thompson started early in his music excursion at the age of eight after learning to play the piano. Since then, playing various instruments and performing came naturally. Charles then decided to learn how to play the saxophone, trombone, drumline, and mallets. He studies at Portland State University to obtain his bachelor’s in Music Education, Music Composition, and Audio Engineering. Charles has performed with groups such as the Salem Pops Orchestra, the Chemeketa Community College Band as the principle trombonist, and the Keizer Community Jazz Band. Currently he is the principle trombonist in the Portland State University Concert Band.
Post High School, Charles chose to study music in his spare time to accurately portray his thoughts onto his score. He was first recognized by Gary P. Gilroy Publications at the age of nineteen, when he cowrote his first published works titled Infected. Afterwards, he began to publish percussion works and continued to write for wind ensembles. Most of Charles’s time is spent time writing, producing, and recording music.
