Awakening

“Awakening” is a meditation and fanfare for intermediate band. The work is inspired by the composer’s vision of daylight emerging over the horizon and the excitement of a new day begins to “awaken” within us. The opening fanfare represents the sense of purpose one might aspire for each day. The moderately slow middle section evokes a sense of contemplation in our relationships with others. After a brief transition, the final section of the work is meant to provide one with the sensation associated with a purpose-driven life – of goal-setting and success – with the final moments of the work dedicated to the excitement of achieving one’s goals. “Awakening” offers a positive performance experience for young bands written to inspire positive, collaborative thinking among young musicians and the ultimate goal of achieving success through collaborative effort.
