Every battle has an “endgame”. In chess, it is the final set of moves that ultimately throw the king. In football, it is the final play of the fourth quarter. In war, it is the final battle that leads to victory or surrender. Only one thing can ensure victory in these final moments: strategy. This Grade 5 piece, Endgame, is an intense representation of that strategy. At the start of the piece, a complex motive is presented in the lower winds and is eventually tossed around between different sections of the band, showing no mercy to anyone. Performers will be challenged when presented with this fast-paced, yet very fun work as they bask in the glory of victory in this musical challenge!
