The inspiration for Extent is the concept of reaching for something that is a bit out of reach, requiring overcoming significant challenges to achieve success. Aggressive and combative motifs are used throughout the piece to represent the challenges one may face. A brief slower section in the middle of the piece represents the light at the end of the tunnel before the music resumes its quick tempo surging through a final challenge before reaching the end.
