"Praise God from heaven. Praise Him from the mountaintops." -Psalm 148:1
Originally composed for the Amador High School Band, in Amador County CA, this is one of my favorite compositions because it expresses the feelings that come with teaching the Amador Band on the field during football season - feelings of gratitude and praise. You see, the students at Amador are wonderful and we are surrounded by the gorgeous foothills west of the Sierra Nevadas.
The fanfare sections were first sketched out in my college days. Then after I began teaching full time, I was inspired to expand the ideas. The main melody developed quickly. The melodic rhythm is loosley based on Psalm 148:1. Lyrics could be sung to the first phrase, "I will praise Him from the mountaintops."
