The Fresno-Madera Music Educators Association commissioned Gary P. Gilroy to compose an homage to GPG's Our Virtual Ensemble during the Covid-19 pandemic for the 2021 High School Honor Band. Although the work Off & Running premiered virtually, the piece will work perfectly for an in-person ensemble. The tempo begins aggressively and remains rather straight-ahead and aggressive for the entire work. The energetic and consistent 8th-note ostinato drives the work forward in an intense manner not unlike a race between a group of runners all trying to outdo each other.
