There is no greater distraction for students than to witness the first snowflakes dropping outside. For most of my students there is joy that comes as a result of snowfall. I wanted to write a piece that first year students could play for a winter concert, regardless of if it falls in December or any other month.
The flexible instrumentation allows each string instrument the opportunity to play melody, harmony, or bass accompaniment parts. While the piano and jingle bells parts are optional, having them included adds to the winter feeling of the piece.
