Prometheus was inspired by the story of a tree cut down from Nevada’s Great Basin National Park. Researchers asked for permission to cut down a tree to study it, they successfully obtained permission from the U.S. forest service. However, when they cut it down, they were horrified to find that it was the oldest tree ever found at the time, just around five thousand years old. The story of this tree is what inspired Prometheus.
