This is a new take on a Christmas staple and is meant for a young percussion ensemble. The piece begins with a duet of bowed vibes who freely introduce the famous melody. The melody is played in its entirety as the rest of the ensemble enters. A change to 6/8 offers a great chance to introduce or reinforce the time signature. The piece is meant to be accessible and offers flexible instrumentation. The conductor should feel free to double or triple (or more) each of the parts to accommodate more players. The any of the drums or other auxiliary instruments can be swapped out for whatever you have available. Get creative! This would make a great piece for an elementary or middle school winter concert.
