Sky Ranch Middle School Band Director Patricia Hudson has been named Band Director of the Month for October 2022.
From her nomination: “Every student of hers that I’ve taught or have been in ensembles with have always been super knowledgeable in music and demonstrate her teachings in their playing and attitudes towards music. She also has helped out as a parent in the Edward C. Reed HS parent booster program; helping feed kids and fit uniforms. She was also the clarinet instructor at Lake Tahoe Music Camp this year. She cares so much about her students and music education in the area and is ALWAYS working to give kids the best education they can get!”
Growing up in Sparks, Patricia was fortunate to take advantage of the phenomenal music programs in Washoe County where she developed her love for music. After graduating from Reed High School, she went on to pursue a degree in Music Education at the University of Nevada, graduating with honors in May 1998.
She taught band and choir at Mendive Middle School from 1998-2004 and loved every minute of it. Her life took another direction from 2004-2010 when she took the hardest job of her life, stay-at-home mom.
In 2010, she bought a local music company, Step Into Music, that teaches early childhood music classes to children. In 2018, she sold the company to return to public school teaching where she taught General Music at Spanish Springs Elementary School, grades 2-6.
In 2019, Patricia returned to her true passion, teaching middle school band. She teaches nearly 300 students, grades 6-8, at Sky Ranch Middle School. She says, “My love for middle school music is because of my amazing middle school band teacher, Earline McGrannahan. I try every day to give my students the same passion for music that she gave me.”
With her husband Todd, they are raising little musicians. Emily plays percussion at the University of Nevada and bassoon at Truckee Meadows Community College, and Lexi plays the French Horn at Edward C Reed High School.
